Acceptable Use Policy For Technology and Networked Information at Holy Family School

This includes: Computers, iPads, Network, Internet, Google Apps, Chrome books,  Cloud based storage, etc.

We are pleased to offer technology education to the students of Holy Family School.  All students who use the school technology and Internet access must complete the application on the accompanying form and obtain the consent of a parent or guardian on that portion of the form.

Ultimately, the parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources.  To that end, Holy Family School supports and respects each family's right to decide whether or not to apply for access to the Internet.

The students of Holy Family School are responsible for using appropriate and acceptable behavior on school technology just as they are in a classroom or a school hallway.  Communications on the network are often public in nature.  General rules for behavior and communication apply.

The technology is provided for students to enhance their educational experience.  Access to technology services is given to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner.  Access to the use of technology is a privilege, not a right.  Students are responsible for what they are doing.

Acceptable Uses

To use the technology and information resources at Holy Family School students must abide by the rules of acceptable use. Please work with us in helping your elementary school age child understand and abide by these simple but important rules of appropriate use.

Acceptable use means that as a student you will promise to use the technology resources, such as computers, iPads and the Internet, with respect and responsibility. As a student you will also promise to abide by school rules, this acceptable use policy, and classroom rules that will be taught by your teachers and other school staff. You must understand that use of technology resources is designed to support your education. If rules are broken, a student may lose his/her privilege in using the technology resources.

Be Polite and Show Respect:
Show respect when accessing, writing and sharing information and projects, always use appropriate school language and behavior.
Show respect for others and self when using, recording and taking pictures.
Show respect for property. Always handle with care by carrying with two hands, having clean hands and keeping food, liquids and objects away from computers and iPads. The technology resources belong to the school.
Store only appropriate and legal material on school technology and information systems.

Be Honest and Obey the Rules:
When using the technology resources follow all posted rules and instructions given by your teachers. Use the technology resources for appropriate educational purposes only.
Follow all school rules.
Follow copyright rules.
Report inappropriate use of the technology to a teacher or the principal.

Keep Personal Things Private
Keep personal information private by not sharing it online.
Respect other student accounts and files by staying out of them.
Keep your passwords safe by not sharing them with other students.

Violations of the above may result in a loss of access as well as other disciplinary action.

Monitoring

Technology storage areas may be treated like school lockers.  Network administrators may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and insure that users are using the system responsibly.  Users should not expect that files stored on the school equipment and resources will always be private.
