Dear Parents/Guardians,

Holy Family School has implement “Google Apps for Education.”

Google Apps for Education is a suite of tools that are very useful to students and teachers.
Google Apps can be accessed anywhere, on any device that has internet access so students can communicate and work on their documents, presentations and projects in school and at home.
Students will be able to collaborate with each other on projects in school and at home.
When a group project is assigned, students will be able to work together in real time from home eliminating the need to gather in the same place.
Students will be able to help each other edit their documents.
Teachers will be able to communicate with students about their work from any device.

Google Apps provides an online storage space for files eliminating the need for flash drives between home and school.

Google Apps for Education is different from public Google accounts in that they are managed by the school, do not include any advertising and have more strict filtering and content controls.

To set up an account in Google Apps for Education, students need to have an email address, which is provided by the school. This email address will only be used for school related projects.  Students will need this email to sign up for school related internet activities as determined by the teachers.  Students will not use this email to sign up for websites at home.

Personal use of this email address will NOT be allowed.

All students will be respectful in their postings and comments.  No cyberbullying, inappropriate language, personal insults, profanity, spam, racist, sexist or discriminatory remarks, or threatening comments will be tolerated. Students are representing Holy Family School when they use Google Apps.

Students should not share their password with other students or anyone outside the Holy Family School community.  Teachers will have access to student passwords.

Students are responsible for messages sent from their accounts. If someone else sends messages from a student's account, the student or parent will report this to a teacher or the principal.

Students will report any unusual activities such as “spam” communications or inappropriate emails to a teacher or the principal.

Students will not provide any personal information via the school email account.

Students will be strictly supervised while using Google Apps for Education at school by teachers.  Parents should supervise students at home anytime they are using the internet.

Holy Family School cannot and does not guarantee the security of electronic files used in Google Apps for Education. Google does have content filter, however, the school cannot ensure that users will not be exposed to unsolicited information.

Google Apps documents and email shared, sent or received through holyfamilyalbany.com are not confidential and are the property of Holy Family School.  Holy Family School reserves the right to retrieve the contents of user mailboxes and documents for legitimate reasons.

Holy Family School has complete control of the Google Apps accounts.  Failure to adhere to any of the above stated policies will result in disciplinary action.

Any misuse will result in both accounts being deleted.

Using Google Apps is a privilege not a right.

Students will be given instruction on how to use the Google Apps appropriately. They will be expected to adhere to the Acceptable Use Policy of Holy Family School.
